Krabi, Thailand is one of the islands in the Andaman Sea. It is a popular beach destination like Phuket. However, the natural rock formations and limestone cliffs, lush tropical trek trails, and multi-tiered waterfalls are more reasons why Krabi is enjoying an influx of tourists. The backpackers and trekkers who came to Krabi in the 1980s introduced the locals to rock climbing. From then on, rock climbing grew as more local enthusiasts got in the groove of rock climbing. Today there are more than 600 bolted routes classified according to their level of difficulty- 5a's are for beginners; 6a's are classics and the 8c's are for the extreme rock climbers. The rule of thumb is to use the services of the locals when rock climbing. The sports is safe even for kids. Railay and Ton Sai are favourite spots for rock climbing. You can choose the type of route you prefer when rock climbing. You can start your climb from the beach and end it on a steep cliff. You can also opt to start a climb off a boat and up a limestone cliff in the sea. You can even choose to rappel from a high spot down on a cliff then end the climb by diving off to the sea below.
